Background & Experience
Some Thrive, Some Flounder
My fascination with the mind began during the crucial years of upper secondary school. I watched some peers thrive while others floundered under pressure. I became acutely aware that resilience is abundant for some but not others and that many factors go into feeling that one is coping with the demands of life.
Valuable Lessons
Several years later, as a postgraduate student studying Health Psychology, my own resilience was challenged when I developed a disabling chronic illness.
To a large extent, I was “saved” by psychology and what it had to offer: perspective, strategies, and proactive methods of coping, all led by an insatiable curiosity to understand the human condition.
This was a pivotal time for me, both personally and professionally.
Inter-connectedness
I was introduced to connections of the mind-brain body and how these influence our response to stressors. My fascination with neuroimmunology quickly grew, and I completed a PhD focusing on gut-brain communication.
A Thirst for Knowledge
I developed the bug for research and also evidence-based clinical practice. Until 2021, I split my time between my private clinical psychology practice and the world of research, where my focus spanned multiple interest areas, including mental health services research and neuroepidemiology.
Balance
Today, I seek a simpler life. Like many of us, COVID-19 served as a wonderful catalyst for me to reflect upon values and to re-align my way of living life with what is fundamentally important to me: Empowering optimal quality of life and resilience in self and others.
I presently work exclusively in private practice, incorporating animal-assisted therapy, nature, creativity, and practices that emphasise the importance of mind-body connection.
